Animas Forks is along County Road 9, which travels through the Gunnison National Forest, outside the town of Silverton, Colorado. Animas Forks was a small mining community nestled on a system of roads now known as the Alpine Loop. The Alpine Loop is 65 miles of unpaved road all in a loop going through the 3 towns of Silverton, Ouray and Lake City.
